people who're granted elemental powers like he is (his being plant-based) are lore-wise considered to have the potential to ascend to godhood
he has a life link with his snake familiar, Changsheng (another reason why he wants to become immortal so he can help sustain her), so she might see stuff about her too! like the fact that she's Old and used to be a god herself
